ONCE YOU HIT “LIKE” IT COULD TAKE UP TO 10 SECONDS FOR THE VIDEO TO LOAD
Mana Kawamura established her company ‘Kawamura the 3rd’ in 2008 in New York.
Her choreography has been seen in various festivals and venues such as Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival (Inside/Out Series), DanceNow Festival at Joe’s Pub, Performance Mix Festival at Joyce Soho and FLIC fest at Irondale Theater among others.
Her first half-evening-length piece, “Pandora” was created in support of the Artist-in-Residence program at Dance New Amsterdam (2010-2011).
Continuing to her first evening length piece, “Pandora -deluxe-” was commissioned by FLIC fest (2012) at Irondale Theater. This work was supported by an Emergency Grant from the Foundation of Contemporary Arts (2012).
Her short piece, “cloudburst” was awarded first prize at the YOKOHAMA competition choreographic department (2010) in Japan. It was developed using the Space Grant, “Swing Space” from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (2010-2011)
She was also awarded by the Emerging Artist Commissioning Program (2011) from STREB Lab for Action Mechanics to create a site-specific new work entitled “little red.”
Mana Kawamura grew up studying dance at the Izumi Kawamura Dance Studio, a dance school her grand mother established in 1953. In 2001 she traveled to Germany to study under Dominique Merci and Malou Airaudo (both members of Pina Bausch Dance Company) at the Folkwang Hochschule, Germany until 2003.
She received a scholarship from the Agency for cultural affairs in Japan to further her studies abroad, and traveled to New York in 2006.
